Vista Follow Up

My experience with Vista has had some setbacks. My video card locks up when I have a Belkin WiFi card installed

My HP 6980 printer with duplex printing will not print duplex automatically even though the setup indicates it is in duplex auto mode.

Impressions of Vista

I came by a version of Vista (premium) and loaded it on my 2.6GHz P4 w/1GB and 300GB drive. So far it works ok. I can't see the advantage over Windows XP though and the learning curve is just as steep as moving to Ubuntu.

I have not LOADED the new version of Ubuntu. I think I will put it on a separate HD.

Envy and nVidia Drivers

I used the Envy program to update Ubuntu 6.1 with the Nvidia video drivers. It worked and I am now able to set the display to my Samsung LCD to 1440 x 900 resolution.

I also set the display resolution after using Envy with the preferences pull down menu. I am not 100% sure that the resolution sticks after I do a shutdown but I can always reset using the nvidia utility.

I recommend Albert's Envy program:
